Brown & Ubarri has existed since 1996 when two experienced trial practitioners joined to create the law firm.  Our particular expertise is in the area of civil litigation.  In recent years, we have also had experience in the areas of corporate and commercial transactions, negligence, insurance law, and criminal defense.  Our attorneys are seasoned trial practitioners and have vast experience in maritime and admiralty matters.

Brown & Ubarri appears in all courts in Puerto Rico and at the federal level in the District Court of Puerto Rico, the First Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston, and Federal Courts on the mainland United States.  In the corporate and commercial areas, we represent various businesses in many aspects of their operations.  We also handle real estate, commercial litigation, and corporate counseling, and have developed experience in the area of dealer disputes.  Additionally, Brown & Ubarri does work in the labor and environmental sectors, as well as in white collar criminal counsel and defense.

Much of our work also comes as referrals from European and United States law firms that wish Brown & Ubarri to handle work for their clients who have matters in Puerto Rico.  One reason for this referral business is that we strive to produce an efficient work product, well researched and correctly presented, while maintaining close communication with the overseas contact person.  Moreover, Brown & Ubarri’s rapport with federal court personnel—essential in the litigation and admiralty fields where swift coordination must be undertaken with the Clerk of the Court, the United States Attorney’s Office and the United States Marshal’s Service—is of interest to our clients.

Brown & Ubarri has full support staff aided by state-of-the-art word processing and computer equipment.  All billing is handled by our accountant through the computer system.  Legal research is performed with Westlaw and at the law library facilities of the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico, which is conveniently located one block away.
